The third edition of the Blue Note Festival in Ghent, Belgium was a blast.

Stellar tear-inducing concerts by Nicola Conte and Meshell Ndegeocello's Spirit Music Sextet -concerts that reaffirmed our love for and hope in jazz. Soothing, spiritual and attention-grabbing performances by The Troublemakers, Zap Mama, Angie Stone and Mäaks Spirit. A by-the-book partyfunk Friday night by grand old man George Clinton and his Parliament/Funkadelic crew.

A wonderfully quaint Blue Note Festival that just felt like home -with the superb sound of our living room stereos transferred into a top quality concert tent. All in a city buzzing from the annual Gentse Feesten, with an energy to rival the New Orleans Mardi Gras or the Rio Carnival. Yes, the Blue Note Festival in Ghent was truly something special.

The OnTheFlip crew were there to sample the delights and got more than we could ever expect. Check out our full coverage of the All that jazz? weekender at the Blue Note Festival, Ghent 2004.

Review : Spirit Music Sextet feat. Meshell Ndegeocello

Our most anticipated concert of the Blue Note Festival rekindled our love for jazz fusion. Billed as a test of Meshell Ndegeocellos career and jazz credentials, the Spirit Music Sextet and their Papillon project once again proved that we are dealing with a truly exquisite breed of musician here.
